Learn Korean Through Hindi Lesson 5 – 식당에 가십니까?

Welcome to the fifth Lesson from Learn Korean in India. Today’s lesson is going to be very interesting.

The title this lesson is 당에 가십니까 ? Meaning : Are you going to a restaurant ?

What you will learn in this lesson - 

1. Location particles 에, 에서 - In, At, From, To

2. Time Particle - 에

3. Present Tense Negative Verb Ending - 지 않습니다

식당에 가십니까?

Following are the vocabulary used in the paragraph :

Vocabulary

Things to remember :

1. 선생님 is used to refer to a teacher regardless of sex, age or marital status.

2. - 지 않습니다 is a negative marker which is added to the verb stem to form a negative sentence.

3. 에 /에서 As discussed in the previous lesson, 에서 indicates the place where the action in the verb phrase takes place. 에, on the other hand, is an adverbial suffix that denotes destination when it is followed by a verb associated with movement.

4. 이는 /는 are topic particles that usually come after personal names. 이는 is used when the preceding syllable ends with a consonant, while는 is used after a vowel.

5. 이도 / 도 are subject particles meaning 'also' or 'too'. 이도 is used when the preceding syllable ends with a consonant, while도 is used after a vowel.

Grammar you'll learn with some examples to understand the concept :

1)  N은/는 N에 갑니다 / 갑니 까? - N is going to N

  • 저는 학교에갑니다. - I am going to school.
  • 철수는 도서관에 갑니다. - Chulsoo is going to the library.
  • 영숙 씨는 식당에 갑니까? - Is Youngsook going to the restaurant?
  • 김 선생님은 영국에 가십니까 ? - Is Mr. Kim going to England ?
  • 선생님은 학교에 가십니다. - The teacher is going to school.

2)  N은 /는 N에옵니다 / 옵니까? - N is coming to N

  • 월슨 씨는 한국에 옵니다. - Mr. Wilson is coming to Korea.
  • 영숙 씨는 도서관에 옵니까 ? - Is Youngsook coming to the library ?

3) N은/는 V- 지 않습니다 - N is not V-ing

  • 우리는 도서관에 가지 않습니다. - We aren't going to the library.
  • 영숙 씨는 일본에 가지 않습니다. - Youngsook isn't going to Japan.
  • 월슨 씨는 일본어를 배우지 않습니다. - Mr. Wilson isn't learning Japanese.
  • 우리는 영어를 공부하지 않습니다. - We aren't studying English.

4) N도 - Also N

  • 윌슨 씨는 영어를 가르칩니다. - Mr. Wilson teaches English.
  • 저도 영어를 가르칩니다. - I also teach English.
  • 우리는 학교에 갑니다. - We are going to school.
  • 철수도 학교에 갑니다. - Chulsoo is also going to school.

5) 같이 - Together

  • 철수 씨도 같이 도서관에 갑니다. - Chulsoo is (also) going with me to the library.
  • 우리는 같이 공부합니다. - We study together.
  • 윌슨 씨도 같이 배웁니까? - Does Mr. Wilson (also) studies with you ?

6) 혼자 - Alone / be oneself

  • 나는 혼자 공부합니다. - I study alone.
  • 집에 혼자 갑니까? - Do you go home alone ?
  • 네. 혼자 갑니다. - Yes, I go alone.
