Learn Korean through Hindi Lesson 4 – 여기는 어디입니까?

여러분 안녕하세요!

Welcome to the fourth Lesson from Learn Korean in India. 

Today’s lesson is going to be very exciting. The title this lesson is 여기는 어디 입니까 ? Meaning : Where is this place ?

What you will learn in this lesson -

  • Making sentences like - Where are we?
  • Making Present tense sentences in Korean (ㅂ니다/습니다).
  • Using Object particles 을/를 and location particles 에서. Using Honorific language.

After this lesson you'll be comfortably ask people direction or guide them in Korean.

여기는 어디 입니까 ?

Following are the vocabulary used in the paragraph :

Things to remember : 

  1. 을/를 are noun particles that mark the object of a sentence. 을 is used after a syllable that ends with a consonant. 를 on the other hand, comes after a syllable that ends with a towel. 

  2. 에서 is a particle that indicates that place where the action in the verb phrase takes place. 

  1. -시/으시 is an honorific ending that come between the verb stem and the ending.

  2. Even though it is literally ' Seoul university ' 서울대학교 is officially translated as ' Seoul National University ' in English.

  3. Both 나 and 저 mean I in English. 저 Is used when we address a person senior to us in status. 저 can also be deferential. 나 Is used in casual situations. 

    For example , we would use 저 when we talk to our teacher, whereas 나 is appreciate among friends. 

Grammar you'll learn :

  1. 여기는 N - 입니다 - This (place) is N.
  • 여기는서울대학교입니다 - This (place) is Seoul National University.
  • 여기는 한국입니다 - This (place) is Korea.
  • 여기는 서울입니다 - This (place) is Seoul.
  • 여기는 N - 입니까 ? - Is this (place) N ?
  • 여기는 서울입니까 ? - Is this (place) Seoul ?
  • 네, 여기는 서울입니다. -  Yes, this (place) is Seoul.
  • 여기는 서울대학교입니까 ? - Is this (place) Seoul National University ?
  • 네, 서울대학교입니다. - Yes, this (place) is Seoul National University.
  1. 여기는 어디입니까 ? - Where are we ?
  • 여기는 어디입니까 ? - Where are we ?
  • 여기는 서울 대학교입니다  - We are at Seoul National University.
  • 여기는 어디입니까 ? - Where are we ?
  • 교실입니다. - We are in a classroom. 
  1. N은/는 N에서  - N을/를 V - ㅂ니다/습니다 - N V N at (in) N
  • 우리는 서울대학교에서 한국어를 배웁니다. - We learn Korean at Seoul National University.
  • 나는 대학교에서 영어를 가르칩니다. - I teach English at a university. 
  • 윌슨 씨는 서울에서 한국어를 공부합니다. - Wilson studies Korean in Seoul.
  • 영숙 씨는 교실에서 책을 읽습니다. - Youngsook is reading a book in a classroom.
  1. N 은/는 무엇을 What does N V ? - V - ㅂ니까/습니까 ? ( What is N Ving )
  • 영숙 씨는 무엇을 배웁니까 ? - What is Youngsook learning ?
  • 철수는 무엇을 공부합니까 ? - What is Chulsoo studying ?
  • 월순 씨는 무엇을 읽습니까 ? - What is Wilson reading ?
  1. V - 시 - ㅂ니까? - V + honorific marker + sentence ending
  • 김 선생님 맨 무엇을 하십니까 ?
  • 나는 영어를 가르칩니다.
  • 월천 씨는 한국어를 배우십니까 ?
  • 네 저는 한국어를 배웁니다.
  1. V - 으시 - ㅂ니까 ?
  • 무엇을 읽으십니까 ? - What are you reading ?
  • 한국어책을 읽습니다.  - I am reading a Korean language textbook.
