Let's learn how to use "N+전에, V+기전에 [Korean grammar]" and make some example sentences.
N+ 전에,V+기전에 (Korean Grammar)
USE:
This grammar is used to express the time when an action occurs 'before a certain period of time' or ' before some action'.
It is equal to "before", "ago" in English.
It is used in the forms ‘Time 전에’, ‘Noun 전에’, and ‘Verb -기 전에’ in a sentence.
CONJUGATION RULE:
When following a Noun, 때 is used.
"N+전에"
For example:
수업 전에 숙제를 해요. ( He does his homework before the class.)
When following the verb, the first step of 'V+기 전에' conjugation is to remove ‘다’ from the base form of the verb.
- Irrespective of the verb stem, whether it is ending with a final consonant (받침)or vowel, we use 'V+기 전에'.
So let's take a verb 먹다(to eat). If you remove 다 from 먹다, 먹 (stem) is left.
According to the conjugation rule, we add 기 전에.
So it becomes 먹기 전에.
So, if you want to say- "I watch TV before eating food."
Then, you'll say- "밥을 먹기 전에 TV를 봐요."
