If you are someone who couldn’t study in Korea due to certain circumstances, even after being eligible you were not selected after continuous efforts.

Is there any chance for such people to study in Korea without the scholarship ?

I would say there is definitely a chance but you have to be highly motivated. You should be ready to put your efforts and hard work. You can definitely study in Korea without a scholarship also.

How can you survive in Korea without a Korean scholarship?

The first barrier is the tuition fee. The cost of living in Korea for Indians is higher as compared to Korea. The education fee of the university and department is very expensive in Korea.

The minimum fee that you have to pay for any subject in Indian currency will be approximately 2 lakhs per semester.

So to complete a Bachelor’s degree in 4 years, you have to arrange approximately 16 lakhs rupees minimum. Apart from living expenses or other expenses you are required to manage. That’s not a small amount of money.

For masters you need a little less because it consists of two years of curriculum.  The amount will be approximately 10 lakhs.

How can you manage to do that?

You have to contact the professors of many universities before applying.

Write emails to the different professors of different fields in different universities like about 10 to 15 professors about what you want to do? Why are you writing to that professor? Excluding the personal life information you have to mention your study plan why you want to take admission in the department?

You have to convince that professor by telling him how you can add to the value to the field of interest of the professors. You have to align your interest with the professor’s interest. What is your future prospectus in how the department will help you to reach that goal in your academic life.

Find specific things that matches with the professor’s interest that you can definitely help with and then write briefly explaining why you would be interested in studying under that professor. Include some information showing that you have done some previous study about those fields and how you can add another angle with respect to the work of that professor.

For Eg:

In the literature you would be interested in doing the comparative study of Korean and Indian literature from their colonialism period. It can help not only to strengthen the bond between the people of the two countries but will also be helpful in future studies of India Korea relation.

These kinds of information will give away the great prospective and might be interesting for the professor. Once you get a reply it shows that they are interested and you can further talk about the tuition fee. Most of the time the universities and professors have the ability to waive the tuition fees for like 20%.  They can also provide you with a dormitory or part time jobs.

Professors can’t provide hundred percent fees but surely will help in arranging the funds for expenses.

Unlike in India the tradition of part time jobs is common and many students earn while studying. There’s a limitation in working hours for the students but you can always talk to professors regarding managing time.

If you are willing to work hard. After coming to Korea you’ll be freely independent for managing your finances.

If you have any more specific questions. Let us know in the comments.
