Why Are Koreans So Curious About India? What They Think About Us

India and Korea may be thousands of kilometers apart, but in recent years, the curiosity between these two countries has grown like never before.
While Indians are dancing to K-pop, watching K-dramas, and even learning Korean, many Koreans are also taking a strong interest in Indian culture, food, movies, and people.

But have you ever wondered — what do Koreans really think about India?

Let’s explore the reasons behind this growing curiosity and what Indians look like through the eyes of Koreans — and trust us, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

 1. India’s Cultural Richness Fascinates Koreans

Korea is a country with a deep cultural identity, and so is India. Many Koreans find India’s long history, spirituality, and traditions incredibly unique. Concepts like yoga, Ayurveda, meditation, and even Indian mythology are seen as mysterious and wise by many Koreans.

In Korea, yoga is very popular in wellness centers and gyms, and it’s often linked with Indian culture and spiritual calmness.

 2. Bollywood & Indian Dramas are Gaining Attention

You’d be surprised to know that movies like 3 Idiots, Dangal, and PK have a big fanbase in Korea. “3 Idiots” was actually released in Korean cinemas and became a hit because of its emotional depth and relatability.

Korean YouTubers often post reaction videos to Bollywood movie scenes, especially emotional or dance sequences.

 3. Indian Food = Flavor Bomb for Korean Taste Buds

Koreans are used to mildly seasoned food with gochujang (Korean chili paste), so when they taste Indian curries, it’s like an explosion of flavor for them! Dishes like chicken curry, samosa, and naan are loved in Korea — especially by the younger crowd who enjoy trying international cuisines.

In Seoul, you can find many Indian restaurants run by Indian chefs. Popular ones include Gongura, Om Restaurant, and The Everest.

But fair warning — Koreans often find Indian spicy food VERY spicy!

 4. India’s Religion and Spiritual Diversity Intrigues Them

Koreans mostly follow Buddhism or Christianity, and they are curious about how India manages to stay united with so many religions — Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism, and more.

They also often admire India’s temples, festivals like Diwali and Holi, and the colorful rituals that are rarely seen in their own society.

 5. Indian Students in Korea Leave a Good Impression

Every year, more and more Indian students are going to Korea for studies, especially in fields like engineering, IT, and research. Korean professors and students often mention that Indians are smart, hardworking, and fluent in English, which creates a positive image in universities.

Some Indian students have also appeared on Korean TV shows like Welcome, First Time in Korea?, where they showcased Indian habits and food to locals.

 6. Indians Are Seen as Friendly and Diverse

Many Koreans say they’re curious because India seems so diverse — every region has its own language, dress, and food. They admire this and often ask questions like:

  • “Do you all understand each other?”
  • “How many languages do you speak?”
  • “Are arranged marriages really still common?”

Though sometimes they get confused by Indian culture, most of them ask questions with genuine curiosity, not judgment.

 7. K-Dramas and K-Pop Spark Curiosity About India Too

As more Indians become fans of K-pop and K-dramas, many Koreans are noticing Indian fans online. Seeing Indian fan chants, edits, and concert reactions makes Koreans curious to know more about who we are and what our culture is like.

When BTS gave a shoutout to Indian ARMYs, it became trending news in Korea too!

 8. Indians Are Often Seen as Philosophical and Peaceful

Because of movies, yoga, and spiritual gurus like Sadhguru, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and others, many Koreans see Indians as deep thinkers. They sometimes stereotype us as “calm, peaceful, and wise,” especially in cities like Seoul where life is fast-paced and stressful.

Some Korean influencers visit Indian ashrams for detox retreats and learning meditation.

 Common Korean Opinions About Indians

Here are a few things Koreans say about Indians:

  • “They’re super friendly and smart.”
  • “Indian food is really delicious but spicy!”
  • “Their festivals look fun and colorful.”
  • “They speak so many languages — it’s amazing.”
  • “I want to visit the Taj Mahal someday!”

And sometimes, funny misunderstandings too:

  • “Do Indians really ride elephants?”
  • “Do you all know yoga from birth?”

(We know these sound silly, but they come from curiosity, not mockery.)

A Growing Bond Between Two Cultures

From Indian actors appearing on Korean shows to Korean influencers visiting India for content, the relationship between Korea and India is growing slowly but surely. Koreans are no longer just curious — they’re engaging with India, learning Hindi words, trying biryani, and even collaborating with Indian creators!

So, why are Koreans so curious about India?

Because to them, we are colorful, diverse, warm, and full of life — everything that’s exciting and new. While India is discovering Korea through K-pop and K-dramas, Korea is discovering India through yoga mats, Bollywood scenes, and chicken curry plates!

Next time you meet a Korean friend or chat online, don’t be shy to introduce your desi life. Who knows? They might already be dreaming of their trip to India!
