Indian K-Pop Idols & Trainees: Meet the Indians Making It Big in Korea

The K-pop wave has taken the world by storm, and India is no exception. From BTS albums flying off shelves to K-drama binge nights becoming a norm, Korean pop culture is now a part of everyday Indian youth life. But what if we told you that young Indians are not just fans—they’re becoming stars in Korea’s most competitive industry?

Yes! A few talented Indians are making their way into the K-pop world as idols and trainees, proving that dreams know no borders. Here’s a look at the inspiring Indian faces shaking up the Korean entertainment scene.

1. Shreya Lenka – The First Indian K-pop Idol (BLACKSWAN)

When Shreya Lenka, a teenager from Odisha, made headlines in 2022, the Indian K-pop fan community couldn’t believe their eyes. Shreya was selected as a finalist to become a member of BLACKSWAN, a multicultural K-pop girl group managed by DR Music in Korea.

Her journey was far from easy. With limited resources, she trained herself in dance and vocals through YouTube videos and online courses. Competing with international talent, Shreya flew to Korea and trained for months before being selected. Even though her time with BLACKSWAN ended early, she made history as India’s first recognized K-pop idol trainee.

Today, Shreya continues to train and grow as an artist, proving that with hard work, anything is possible—even a K-pop debut for a small-town girl from India!

2. Priyanka Mazumdar – Z-Girls Pioneer

Before Shreya, it was Priyanka Mazumdar from Assam who made India proud by joining the K-pop group Z-Girls. Formed in 2019 by Z-Pop Dream Project, the group featured members from different Asian countries, and Priyanka represented India.

With her powerful vocals, strong stage presence, and charismatic visuals, Priyanka quickly gained fans from around the world. Though Z-Girls went inactive after a short run, Priyanka carved her name as one of the earliest Indian faces in K-pop.

Now pursuing her solo music career, she continues to release songs, collaborate with global artists, and inspire thousands of young Indian girls who dream of becoming K-pop idols.

3. Aria – The Indian Visual of X:IN

Aria, born Gauthami, is a K-pop idol from Kerala, who made headlines when she debuted with the girl group X:IN in 2023. She gained attention not just for her visuals but also for her ability to sing and speak fluently in Korean—an impressive feat considering she only began learning the language a couple of years ago.

As the main visual and vocalist, Aria was one of the youngest members of X:IN and stood out for her grace and professionalism.

Though she has officially left the group, Aria is currently working on her solo journey, sharing updates through her social media platforms. She is also mentoring aspiring artists through content and workshops, much like Shreya, and continues to build a growing fanbase in India, Southeast Asia, and Korea.

Her journey proves that with determination, even someone from a small town in India can make it to a global stage.

4. Siddhant Arora – A New Name on the Rise?

Rumors have floated around about a few Indian boys training under Korean entertainment companies. While official confirmations are rare, fans on social media keep spotting young Indian talents in K-pop auditions or short trainee clips.

One such name often mentioned is Siddhant Arora, said to be in training with a Korean agency. Though details are still under wraps, Indian fans are hopeful that male representation from India will also soon enter the K-pop world.

This is especially exciting because, until now, Indian representation in K-pop has been mostly female. With growing global acceptance, agencies are opening doors to all races and nationalities.

Rising Hope: Indian K-pop Trainees in the Making

The path to becoming a K-pop idol is not easy. It requires long hours of dance practice, vocal training, strict diets, Korean language fluency, and strong mental health. But that’s not stopping Indian youngsters from trying.

From Delhi to Chennai, K-pop dance academies are booming. Online auditions are held every few months by agencies like BigHit, SM, and JYP, with hundreds of Indians applying. The rise of platforms like K-pop India Contest and Korean Cultural Centre events has made it easier for Indians to showcase their talents to Korean companies.

In fact, several K-pop training academies have opened up in cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, offering intensive K-pop style training.

Can Indians Really Make It in K-pop?

The answer is yes, but with effort. K-pop is open to non-Koreans more than ever. Groups like BLACKSWAN, Z-Girls, EXP Edition, and NCT have included members from Japan, Thailand, China, and the US. As fans become global, so do idols.

Agencies are realizing the importance of global diversity, and India, with its massive talent pool and passionate fan base, is a market they cannot ignore.

What matters most is talent, discipline, and never giving up—even when the journey seems too far from home.

These Indian K-pop idols and trainees are pioneers.
They are not only changing the face of Korean pop culture but also proving that dreams aren’t limited by geography. Whether it’s Shreya dancing her heart out in Seoul, Priyanka rocking the stage with her voice, or aspiring trainees preparing for their shot—each one is an example of courage and cultural connection.

To all the Indian K-pop fans out there: your dreams are valid. Who knows? The next Indian K-pop star might just be you!
