Let's learn how to use Korean grammar "V + ㄴ/는다면서요?" with conjugation rules and some simple real-life examples.

V + ㄴ/는다면서요?- Korean Grammar 

USE:

V + ㄴ/는다면서요?is used when the speaker wants to confirm something they heard or recheck information that someone else told them.

It is similar to I heard that (someone/something) is …, is that true?”in English.

It is used in spoken Korean to express curiosity, surprise, or mild doubt.

Brief explanation in Hindi:

V + ㄴ/는다면서요? का मतलब:

“सुना है कि…” / “आपने कहा था कि…” / “क्या सच में…?”

CONJUGATION RULE:

V + ㄴ/는다면서요? grammar is used with verbs. The first step of 'V + ㄴ/는다면서요?' conjugation is to remove ‘다’ from the basic form of the verb, Then you add  ㄴ/는다면서요? to the verb stem.

If the verb stem ends in batchim you add 는다면서요? ( 먹는다면서요? )

If the verb stem does not have a batchim you add 다면서요? ( 간다면서요? )

EXAMPLE SENTENCES: 

  1. 내일 쉬는다면서요?
    → I heard you’re taking a break tomorrow?
  2. 한국으로 유학 간다면서요?
    → I heard you’re going to study abroad in Korea?
  3. 매일 운동한다면서요?
    → I heard you exercise every day?
  4. 그 사람 결혼한다면서요?
    → I heard that person is getting married?

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  • When speaking politely, the tone and context matter — it can sound friendly or slightly accusing depending on your intonation.
  • The nuance depends on tone:
    • Rising tone (↗) → curious question
    • Falling tone (↘) → mildly doubtful / confirming
