N-(이)나 -(이)나 할 것 없이 Korean Grammar

Let's learn how to use the N-(이)나 -(이)나 할 것 없이 Korean Grammar with some simple and easy-to-understand example sentences.

N-(이)나 -(이)나 할 것 없이 -  “Regardless of… / Without exception / No matter whether A or B…”

USE:

This expression means:

“Regardless of… / Without exception / No matter whether A or B…”
Used when everyone/everything in the group is included, no exceptions.

It shows that A, B, and everything else all fit the same condition.

CONJUGATION RULE

Attach the particle -(이)나 after each noun and then add 할 것 없이.

  • Noun + (이)나 + Noun + (이)나 + 할 것 없이

  • Works with two items OR bigger categories.

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

1. Two items

  1. 아이들이나 어른들이나 할 것 없이 모두 기뻐했어요.
    → Regardless of whether they were kids or adults, everyone was happy.

  2. 학생이나 선생님이나 할 것 없이 바빴어요.
    → Whether they were students or teachers, everyone was busy.

2. Large/general group

  1. 남자나 여자나 할 것 없이 이 노래를 좋아해요.
    → Men or women, everyone likes this song.

  2. 한국이나 외국이나 할 것 없이 이 문제가 심각해요.
    → Whether in Korea or abroad, this problem is serious everywhere.

3. Situational

  1. 봄이나 겨울이나 할 것 없이 그는 항상 등산해요.
    → No matter if it’s spring or winter, he always hikes.

  2. 어디서나 누구나 할 것 없이 안전이 가장 중요해요.
    → No matter the place or the person, safety is most important.

Additional Notes

  • Highlights universality → something applies to everyone or everything mentioned.

  • Similar to “A든 B든 상관없이”, but slightly stronger and more formal.

  • Mostly used with nouns, not verbs.

  • Often used in writing, announcements, or explanations.
