V / A + –던데요 (“I saw that…”)
USE:
V / A + –던데요 is used when the speaker is expressing something they personally experienced, saw, or realized, and wants to share that observation to express surprise.
It is similar to “I noticed that…,” “I saw that…,” or “It seemed that…” in English.
It can also be used to politely disagree or give new information that the listener might not know.
CONJUGATION RULE:
V / A + –던데요 grammar is used with verbs and adjectives. The only step of ‘V / A + –던데요' conjugation is to attach –던데요 to the verb or adjective stem.
EXAMPLE SENTENCES:
- 어제는 비가 오던데요.
→ It was raining yesterday (when I saw it). - 그 식당이 맛있던데요.
→ That restaurant was tasty (from my experience). - 비싸다고 했는데 싸던데요.
→ You said it was expensive, but it was cheap (when I saw it) - 그 집 커피 맛있던데요.
→ The coffee at that place was delicious (when I tried it).
Additional notes:
The speaker must have experienced or witnessed the situation.
It’s often used to sound soft, polite, and conversational.
