Let's learn how to use Korean grammar "V / A + (으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라" with conjugation rules and some simple real-life examples.

V / A + (으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라 (“not only…but also”)

USE:

V / A + (으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라 is used to connect two clauses and means “not only…but also” in English.
It shows that the first statement is true, and the second one adds more information that strengthens or expands on the first.

It can be used with verbs, adjectives, and nouns.

Brief explanation in Hindi-

(으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라 मतलब:

“केवल .. ही नहीं बल्कि .. भी” के लिए प्रयोग होता है।

उदाहरण:

한국어는 쉬울 뿐만 아니라 재미있어요.
→ कोरियन केवल आसान ही नहीं बल्कि मज़ेदार भी है।

CONJUGATION RULE:

V / A + (으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라   grammar is used with verbs and adjectives. The first step of ‘V / A + (으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라' conjugation is to get the verb or adjective stem. And then - 

If stem ends in consonant -   을 뿐만 아니라.

If stem ends in vowel - ㄹ 뿐만 아니라.

If using a noun, use –일 뿐만 아니라.

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

  1. 이 가수는 노래를 잘할 뿐만 아니라 춤도 잘 춰요.
    → This singer not only sings well but also dances well.
  2. 한국어는 문법이 어려울 뿐만 아니라 단어도 많아요.
    → Korean not only has difficult grammar but also a lot of vocabulary.
  3. 그 사람은 똑똑할 뿐만 아니라 성격도 좋아요.
    → That person is not only smart but also has a good personality.
  4. 저는 학생일 뿐만 아니라 회사에서도 일해요.
    → I’m not only a student but also work at a company.

Additional notes:

  • This grammar pattern is often used in formal or written Korean, but also appears in daily conversation.
  • The two clauses should have a positive relationship — both usually describe good things or both bad things.
    • ✅ 공부를 열심히 할 뿐만 아니라 운동도 해요.
    • ❌ 공부를 열심히 할 뿐만 아니라 늦게 자요. (unnatural contrast)
  • When used in writing, it sounds polite and structured, similar to “furthermore” or “in addition” in English.
