Let's learn how to use the Noun + (이)라든가 Korean Grammar with some simple and easy-to-understand example sentences.

Noun + (이)라든가- things like… / such as… / whether A or B

USE:


  • Used to list examples or give representative options, not a complete list

  • Means “things like… / such as… / whether A or B”

  • Implies there are other similar things as well

  • Used to show variety, possibility, or non-specific choices

  • Common in spoken Korean, explanations, and casual writing

 Often translated as:
“A or B, etc.” / “A and things like that”

CONJUGATION:

Noun + (이)라든가

  • Noun ending in consonant이라든가  (책 → 책이라든가)
  • Noun ending in vowel라든가 (영화 → 영화라든가)

Can be used:

  • Once (implying others exist)
  • Repeated (A라든가 B라든가)

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

  • 주말에는 운동이라든가 요가를 해요.
    → On weekends, I do things like exercise or yoga.
  • 스트레스를 풀 때는 음악을 듣는다든가 글을 써요.
    → To relieve stress, I do things like listening to music or writing.
  • 여행 중에는 날씨라든가 교통 문제를 고려해야 해요.
    → While traveling, you need to consider things like weather or transportation issues.
  • 비가 오라든가 눈이 오라든가 상관없이 출근해야 해요.
    → Whether it rains or snows, I still have to go to work.
  • 회의에서는 일정이라든가 예산에 대해 이야기했어요.
    → In the meeting, we talked about things like the schedule and budget.

Additional Notes

  •  Not used for exact or final choices

  •  Used when the list is not complete

  • Softer and more flexible than -(이)나

  • Often appears with:

    • 같은 (책이라든가 영화 같은 것)

    • (일이라든가 공부 등)

  • Natural with verbs like:

    • 하다, 보다, 먹다, 듣다, 준비하다

  • Can express “whether A or B” when used with clauses
