LKI Korean Level Test - Find Your Level and Join the Right Course
Discover your current Korean proficiency across all six TOPIK levels. Free, accurate, and aligned to official TOPIK levels.
The LKI Korean Level Test is a free 72-question online assessment designed to identify your current Korean language proficiency. It covers all six official TOPIK levels (Level 1 to Level 6) - from Hangul basics and beginner grammar to advanced sentence patterns, idiomatic usage, and reading comprehension.
Aligned to official TOPIK levels. Different institutes use different level systems and naming conventions. At LKI, our courses are aligned to the official TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) framework, and this test's recommendations follow the same framework. So your result corresponds directly to both a TOPIK level and an LKI course level.
Who is this test for?
Self-learners who want to know where they stand before joining a course
Students who have studied Korean elsewhere and want a placement check
TOPIK candidates curious about their current level
Anyone planning to study or work in Korea who needs a quick proficiency snapshot
How the test works
The test works through one part at a time, 12 questions each, covering grammar, vocabulary, usage, and (from the intermediate parts onwards) brief reading passages. It adapts to you: once your answers show you've reached your ceiling, the test ends there rather than making you sit through material well beyond your level - so most learners finish in well under the full length. We score you separately on each level, not as a single average. To be recommended the next level you need at least 8 of a part's 12 questions correct; 10 or more - with solid scores on the parts below - earns a confident recommendation. Lucky guesses can't compensate for gaps in the basics, so your result reflects what you've genuinely mastered.
Don't worry if some questions feel out of reach - answer what you can and click Continue. The test decides on its own when you've gone far enough, and there's also a "stop here and see my result" option in each part if you'd like to finish sooner. There is no time limit, so you can work at your own pace, and most learners finish in around 10 to 20 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the LKI Korean Level Test?
The LKI Korean Level Test is a free online assessment across the six official TOPIK levels (Level 1 to Level 6). It presents one 12-question part per level and adapts to your ability - once you reach your ceiling it ends, so most learners finish in well under an hour. It then recommends the most suitable LKI course for you.
How is this test aligned to TOPIK levels?
Different institutions use different level systems and naming conventions, which can be confusing. At LKI, all our courses are aligned to the official TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) levels 1–6 - the standard recognised by the Korean government and used in scholarships, university admissions, and employment in Korea. This level test follows the same TOPIK framework.
Do I need to know Hangul to take the test?
Yes - even Level 1 questions are written in Hangul. If you can't read Hangul yet, use the early-exit option at the top of the test and we'll recommend Level 1, which begins with Hangul.
How does the scoring work?
We score you separately on each TOPIK level rather than as a single average. To be recommended the level above, you need at least 8 of that level's 12 questions correct; 10 or more - with solid scores (9+) on all earlier levels - earns a confident recommendation. If an earlier level shows a serious gap (below 50%), we recommend consolidating there first: strong guessing at higher levels can't substitute for missing foundations. This way, you're placed where you'll genuinely progress fastest.
How long does the test take?
The test adapts to your level. You work through one 12-question part at a time, and once your answers show you've reached your ceiling the test ends automatically - so a beginner may answer as few as 12–24 questions while an advanced learner sees more. There is no time limit, and most learners finish in around 10 to 20 minutes. Each part also has a "stop here and see my result" option if you'd like to finish sooner.
Is the test free? Is my data safe?
Yes, the test is completely free. We ask for your name and email only to share your detailed result and course recommendation. We comply with India's DPDP Act 2023 - your data is never sold or shared with third parties.
What if I disagree with the recommendation?
Our scoring is statistically reliable but not infallible. If you'd like a senior counsellor's review, just WhatsApp or call us on +91-9142836815 or email [email protected]. We're happy to do a brief one-on-one assessment to confirm your level.
