Let's learn how to use "ㅡ" Irregular conjugation with some examples.

‘ㅡ’ 불규칙 (Irregular Conjugation) 

"-CONJUGATION RULE:

According to this rule,  when the verb and adjective stems in Korean that end with 'ㅡ', ㅡ get omitted when it get conjugated with an ending that start with 아/어.

Steps to conjugate:

  1. In the case of single syllable stems in which ㅡ is the only vowel, ㅓ is added after omitting  ㅡ.
  2. If the vowel that comes before ㅡ is 아 or 오, ㅏ is added after omitting  ㅡ.
  3. If the vowel that comes before ㅡ is neither 아 nor 오, ㅓ is added after omitting  ㅡ.

EXAMPLES :

  • 크다- 커요.
  • 쓰다- 써요.
  • 끄다- 꺼요.
  • 나쁘다- 나빠요.
  • 예쁘다- 예뻐요.
  • 바쁘다- 바빠요.
  • 아프다- 아파요.
  • 고프다- 고파요.
  • 슬프다- 슬퍼요.
  • 기쁘다- 기뻐요.
